About Us
Foster’s Apiary is a veteran, locally owned and operated beekeeping business based out of Keaau, Hawaii. The owner and beekeeper, Ben Foster, manages and maintains approximately 60 hives all over Hawaii Island. He has hives in Papa?aloa, Pa?auilo, Orchidland, Keaau, waiakea and Waawaa.
In 2025, Foster’s Apiary won first place in the light honey competition. In 2024, Foster’s Apiary won third place in the dark honey competition.
Before owning his own company, Ben worked for a commercial beekeeping company in Keaau. In 2023, he branched out forming his own company.
Starting in 2026, Foster’s Apiary has started to produce and sell beeswax candles made by Ben’s wife, Emily. All candles are hand made in small batches from the wax capings from the honey harvests.
Our mission at Foster’s Apiary is to keep local products affordable to local people.
Practices
All of our hives are managed and checked every three weeks. We use selectively breed mite resistant queens. To help reduce mite populations in our hives, we do mechanical mite removal by removing excess drone comb. In addition to mechanical removal, we also use an organic compound, azelaic acid, to help reduce mite populations.
The honey is strained using a 425 micro strainer. Our honey is never filtered or heated. Due to the honey being strained, some traces of bee parts and wax may be present in the honey.
All beeswax is triple filtered and strained to ensure a pure quality of wax. No colors or scents are added to our candles. All of our wicks are organic cotton wicks.
