About Us

We at Pinapinao Farm are proud owners of a Hawaiian agroforest where food production and ecosystem restoration go hand in hand. Named after the native pinapinao damselflies that dance through our gardens and orchards, our farm celebrates the biodiversity of Hawai?i’s living landscape.
We grow 700 cacao trees beneath a 15-year-old tropical agroforest canopy just north of Hilo and produce our own pure Hawaiian chocolate entirely on the farm. We also cultivate ?ulu, bananas, pineapples, tropical fruits, and fresh culinary herbs, while sharing the land with a returning breeding pair of native Hawaiian hawks (?Io) that nests here each year.

Practices
We apply science-based regenerative farming practices that work with nature rather than against it. We constantly observe, experiment, and refine our methods to improve soil health, strengthen biodiversity, and create a resilient agroforest ecosystem.
Our work is supported by technical training and conservation programs, including Natural Resources Conservation Service EQIP, GoFarm Hawaii, and American AgCredit, helping us build a farm centered on sustainability, stewardship, and continual learning.
